Hello, My name is Jonatan and i’m 18 years old and currently living in the southern part of Sweden. I have developed a new desalination method that uses waste heat from heavy industries to clean seawater through evaporation. I am now leading a project to build a full scale pilot facility in my hometown Halmstad that will have capacity to clean 40.000 liters per day.
Tell us what the water concern in your country is!Sweden has been very lucky with water supplies throughout history but in the last five years something has changed. In the southern part the rainfalls have declined and our groundwater level have decreased. In some regions we have been forced to build desalination facilities that uses reverse osmosis
From where comes your interest in water?I have always been fascinated by water and loved to swim all year around even if the temperature dropped below zero. When i was 14 years old i started to worry about the scenario that one day the water supplies would run dry and i started to think about new ways to clean seawater. Somewhere around the start of 2017 i came up with the metod i’m currently developing
This is what I think is one of the solutions for a sustainable future:I think that humanity must start to utilise this planet’s largest water reserve, The ocean, if we will stand a chance to have enough water for us humans to survive. But conventional desalination is both expensive to build and have a high energy consumption so that’s why i’m hoping that my new method will bring water to thousands of people in the future
