Student: Princeton University

Ayushi Sinha is a junior in the Princeton University Department of Computer Science pursuing certificates in Entrepreneurship, Statistics and Machine Learning. Professionally, she has worked at the intersection of ML and geospatial as a Software Engineer at Microsoft. and as a Quality Assurance Engineering at Kik in Tel Aviv, where she first developed an interest in cryptocurrency and blockchain. Having worked on her own startup, WellPower, which upcycles solar panels and old car batteries to filter water, she is particularly interested in social entrepreneurship. Additionally, Ayushi won 1st place in the Tennessee Stockholm Junior Water Prize for three consecutive years for her independent research with zebra mussels.

Tell us what the water concern in your country is!

I am dedicated to bringing more access to clean water in developing nations. Specifically, we are piloting WellPower in Kenya during December 2018, and will be expanding to additional African countries.

From where comes your interest in water?

I have an extensive research background in water and worked on a independent research project with an invasive species of freshwater mussel which pollute the Tennessee River. I won 1st place in the state level and represented Tennessee in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize for three consecutive years, as well as placing 1st as the Tennessee Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, and winning a silver medal at the International Sustainable World Engineering Energy Environment Project.

This is what I think is one of the solutions for a sustainable future:

WellPower is a sustainable solution to off-grid energy utilized to address the world's water crisis. We produce water pumping and filtration systems that are powered by upcycled solar panels and reused electric vehicle packs. This solution aims to serve small businesses in rural communities across Sub-Saharan Africa, who can now add filtered water for domestic use and drinking to their portfolio.
