After spending an inspiring week in Stockholm, full of science, social activities, new friendships, meeting royals, and of course a tough competition, the finalists return home to their busy lives, often losing the momentum to solve the world’s water problems that was built during the competition season.
WaterTank is an opportunity to keep these bright young talents engaged and motivated. And our chance to help them stay in touch with the water community.
Through WaterTank we hope to help build towards the next generation of water professionals and keep inspiring more young people to tackle the challenges of a water insecure world.
We really believe that the projects and approaches developed by the Alumni can be used to solve many of the world’s most challenging problems. Through mentorship and by connecting Alumni with the right partners we hope that we can bring these projects to practice.
Each year, thousands of young people (age 15-20) enter SJWP national competitions and design water-related projects of environmental, scientific, social or technological significance. Over 100,000 young innovators participate each year, from almost 40 countries.
National winners are invited to Stockholm to represent their country at the international final during the world’s leading annual event on water -World Water Week. The overall winner receives a USD 15,000 award and a blue crystal prize sculpture.
H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is the Patron of the Prize. It is hosted by Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), and delivered by independent national organizers, with support from SIWI and in accordance with its prize guidelines.
